Yesterdays Story: Germany Training Troops at Hollomon AFB in AlamogordoClovis, New Mexico, AllSouthwest News Service ... What? AllSouthwest News you say just because Germany trains in New Mexico it is the beginning of the New World Order in America? As the old commercial saying goes----- but wait there's more.
After being told by Mr Robert W. Pepper during small talk that there is also Singaporean
troops training at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, New Mexico we had to check it out.
After all, he is from the government so he had to be telling the truth right? Well, low and
behold it appears he was telling the truth.

By Airman 1st Class Angel Casaigne PUBLIC AFFAIRS The Republic of Singapore's chief of air force, Maj. Gen. Raymund Ng, arrived Aug. 31 to see first hand the mission being accomplished at Cannon and in the 428th Fighter Squadron.
After the Air Force C-20 carrying the general landed, he was greeted by Col. Jeff Remington, 27th Fighter Wing commander, and a group of finely trained Honor Guardsmen at the flightline. With his entire stay at Cannon strategically planned out, Ng began the visit with a grin. The general's first stop took him to the wing headquarters building to participate in an office call which included not only the generals staff, but also Col. Dan Runyan, 27th Fighter Wing vice commander.
"I've been involved in hosting many distinguished visitors, but it was especially gratifying to host the leadership from the Republic of Singapore's Air Force," said Runyan. "Gen. Ng seemed to thoroughly enjoy his visit to 'America's Go-To Wing,' and I know the 428th FS was delighted to welcome him to their showcase squadron. It's not every day we get someone of his caliber to visit, and we hope he will come back again soon," Runyan said.
Also at the office call was Lt. Col. Robert Simm, 428th Fighter Squadron commander.
"General Ng's visit was a rare opportunity for us to showcase the Buccaneers to senior RSAF
leadership, Simm said. "We used the opportunity to emphasize the teamwork between the U.S. Air
Force and all RSAF personnel, both within the squadron and across the wing, which has made this program so successful. "I believe General Ng was very pleased with what he observed, and it was our privilege to host his visit. We look forward to the next opportunity to tell our story when Maj. Gen. Lim,the Singapore Chief of Defense Forces, arrives later this month," Simm concluded. After the office call, a dinner in the general's honor was held at The Landing. Members of the Clovis Committee of Fifty and the Portales Military Affairs Committee accompanied the general for dinner.
Attending the dinner along side Gen. Ng was Col. Jay Lindell, 27th Operations Group commander.
"It was a tremendous honor to have Gen. Ng visit Cannon. The warm relationship with the Republic of Singapore Air Force continues to grow and we are indeed lucky to have the 428th Fighter Squadron at Cannon."
The next day, after a busy morning, Gen. Ng was ready for a bit of fun. Ng was fitted for a flight suit and then strapped into a 3-D hanging harness used by AF pilots to train in the unfortunate event they must eject from a wounded aircraft.
From there it was on to the 428th FS where an F-16 Fighting Falcon was geared and warmed up for Ng and his pilot, Lt. Col. Tan KahHan, 428th FS senior ranking officer.
With Tan behind the controls, the pair soared for about an hour. The flight gave Ng an opportunity to see Cannon and the surrounding high plains landscape from a bird's-eye view.
Tan said he and the 428th FS were honored to host Ng. "We are very honored to have Gen. Ng visiting us here in Peace Carvin III (428th FS). Even more special is it's the RSAF's 32nd anniversary - a rare treat indeed!" He added, "Many may not know that Ng was very instrumental in setting up Peace Carvin III here," said Tan. "He last visited Cannon in November 1997 when the whole program was still at the concept phase. This visit allows us, with great support from the 27th FW and the community, to showcase to him the improvements that we have made in such a short period of time," concluded Tan.
That same evening Ng had an opportunity to meet with the men and women of the 428th FS and enjoy
dinner with them.
As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. Following dinner, Ng and his Cannon hosts sadly said their farewells. Although his visit was short, Ng said he thoroughly enjoyed himself. With much reluctance, he boarded
his C-20 and flew into the dark New Mexico night sky with his entourage bound for his homeland of
Singapore.
